An ASRA Greater London Housing Association tenant, who took up running to help him recover from a football injury, has been bitten by the bug to such an extent that he is now in training for this year’s London Marathon on Sunday 13th April.
Thirty-year-old Andy Roscoe lives in a one-bed apartment at ASRA’s Fountain House development in Woolwich - a shared ownership scheme which is helping young professionals get a foot on the property ladder. He is hoping to raise around £1500 for Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity which aims to help understand the causes of sudden cardiac death in young people.
Andy became interested in this charity after a family friend tragically died suddenly from a heart problem at the age of just 34.
Andy took up running last summer to aid his recovery from an injury sustained while playing for his Sunday league team Fridays FC. He will be joined by two team-mates in the London Marathon and aims to complete the gruelling 26-mile course in less than four hours.
ASRA are boosting Andy’s fundraising effort with a £150 donation, while anyone else who wishes to sponsor Andy can do so on-line at www.justgiving.com/andyroscoe77.
Andy said: “I’d never really thought about serious running until I got the injury as I’d always preferred football. But I’ve really enjoyed the running and thought it gave me a great opportunity to help a very worthwhile cause. It will be a tough day out there but the fact that there will be three of us will be a big help as we’ll spur each other on.”
Andy, who has lived at Fountain Close since April 2007, added: “It’s a great place to live – I saw it being built and was happy to commit to a home there before it was finished.”
Julietta Kene of ASRA said: “Andy is working really hard for this – when we heard what he was doing we were naturally keen to help and are delighted to pledge £150 to his chosen charity.”
