 The Secret's Out

The Secret's OutPeople looking for affordable housing in Woolwich, south east London, have been given a boost with the completion of a stylish new development, called The Secret.

The £3 million development, from housing and regeneration group LHA-ASRA has been funded by LHA-ASRA and the Homes and Communities Agency, and supported by the London Borough of Greenwich. It comprises 12 one, two and three bed apartments at Long Walk, close to the town centre.

Features include private balconies, white gloss fitted kitchens, a landscaped garden and security gates.

The Secret has an ‘excellent’ EcoHomes rating, with solar panels to help minimise running costs for residents as well as its impact on the environment.

The scheme will provide six much-needed homes for affordable rent to people on Greenwich Borough Council’s waiting list.

The remaining six homes are available through LHA-ASRA’s sales arm, Newlife Living, to help first time buyers keen to get a foot on the property ladder, but struggling to find a deposit to buy a home outright.

The Homes and Communities Agency’s New Build HomeBuy shared ownership scheme enables people to buy part of the home with a mortgage and then pay less than market rent on the remainder.

Prices start from £38,750 for a 25% share of a one bed apartment, with a monthly rent of £290.63. But buyers are urged to act quickly as only one home remains.

Robert Nettleton, Group Director of Development and Regeneration at LHA-ASRA, said: “We are delighted to provide much-needed affordable housing that will meet the needs of local people.

“LHA-ASRA will continue to work closely in partnership with Greenwich Borough Council to provide homes, not only here but at several other sites across the borough, through a range of innovative options, including rent and shared ownership.”

LHA- ASRA is currently building 123 affordable apartments on the site of the former International House student accommodation in Woolwich, and the flagship 20-storey Elmgrove Tower near Plumstead railway station, which will provide a further 119 homes.

It has also recently completed a development of 31 affordable homes in nearby Shooters Hill, at the site of the former Victorian police station.

The Secret is located within the borough’s regeneration area and is well served by local bus routes and the new Docklands Light Railway extension. Each home has its own parking space.
